Elijah Stapp, was born in Orange County, Virginia, on October 16, 1783, the son of Achilles and Margaret (Vawter) Stapp. He married Nancy Shannon in 1811 and came to Texas from Missouri, where he was a pioneer settler in DeWitt's colony and a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence,

Vawter, Marvin D (b. 25 SEP 1918, d. ?)

Note: Marvin was VVV president for the years 1988-1990. His great-great-grandfather William Vawter, son of David, was an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. The Continental Army was the professional and prestigious army, different from the militia. After the war, the officers formed the Society of Cincinnati, in which membership is limited to one male descendant of each officer. Marvin has the honor of holding membership as a descendant of William. As far as is known, William was the only V/V/V who was an officer in the Continental Army.
