was first published in 1883 by A. T. Andreas, Chicago, IL.
WILLIAM J. BROGAN, farmer, P. O. Hartford, was born in Clinton County, Iowa, August 19, 1855. He was educated in the public schools of Iowa, and St. Francis Academy, Milwaukee, and St. John's College, Prairie Du Chien, Wis. In January, 1875, he came to Kansas, locating in Hartford, in partnership with his father, Francis Brogan. He is engaged in farming, and in stock feeding and dealing in Lyon, Coffey and Chase counties. He married Miss Eva I. Slack, of Hartford, December 11, 1879. Mr. and Mrs. Brogan are members of the Catholic Church.

No reference to the name "Mary" (as Edward's wife) except on daughter Mary Emma (Brown) Johnson's death certificate. Mary Spain Brown died and Edward remarried.
Living next door, in the 1880 census, is Margaret Elizabeth (Brown) Rogers. Married to James Madison Rogers. She must have died before the 1900 census. Their son, (Gideon) Kirk Rogers was a Presbyterian minister in Houston, Tx. He came to Bandera and conducted the funeral for his first cousin, Edward Asa Johnson in Sept. 1968. Kirk Rogers passed away in 1976.
Mary Emma, Cannie and Lillie were all born in Tennessee. Mary Emma was married in Pope Co. Arkansas in 1875 and Cannie (or Carrie) was married in Pope Co. Arkansas in 1877. Lillie was married to a Mr Petrey and then married L E Gibson in Pope Co. She was on the 1900 Pope Co. Ark. census with husband Edward L. Gibson. Asa Johnson wrote letters to his Aunt Lillie in Arkansas, at least until 1950.

Finally got her death certificate from Arkansas. Mary "Emma" died May 23, 1942 in Hartford, Arkansas. She was brought back to Van Alstyne, Texas for burial. Probably next to her husband, but haven't located the graves.
Information was given by her sister Lillie who lived in Hartford.
Birthdate May 5th, 1855, father Ed Brown and mother Mary Spain.
