Rucker, Mary (b. 1702, d. ?)
Note: David Vawter's wife has been a source of confusion for many years, and a lot of researchers have thought David Vawter married Mary Rucker, daughter of Ephraim Rucker. W.T. Vawter made this mistake in his Sons of American Revolution application. And they didn't know the difference.
To recap: Ephraim Rucker's daughter Mary Rucker married William Vawter. Ephraim's sister Mary Rucker married William Offill. And their daughter Mary (Offill) married David Vawter. If you read the Rucker Family Genealogy carefully, they are correct. Peter Rucker is the father of Mary Rucker Offill, and our line.

Rucker, Peter (b. 1661, d. 23 FEB 1743)
Note: Peter Rucker was issued naturalization papers in 1704, so it is estimated that he came to this country about 1690. Probably on the ship The Rising Sun. Family legend states that Peter and a few others were able to swim to shore or cling to driftwood after the ship wrecked off the Virginia coast near the mouth of the James River.

Mary Rucker's brother, Ephraim had a daughter, Mary Rucker, who married William Vawter, and the two Marys have caused a lot of confusion.
MARY OFFELL (Offill, Offil, Offal) is our line, and she married DAVID VAWTER.

"The Rucker Families" by Sudie Rucker Wood (1932) provides information about the descendants of Peter Rucker. It does not go farther back.
