Elder Peter Poyner, the Baptist minister of Preble Co., OH - it seems he may have performed marriages in Preble, Montgomery and possibly Butler Co., Ohio.

The book: " History of the Miami Baptist Assn. - written 1869 - Miami Baptist Biographies" has this notation on Elder Peter Poyner:
" Elder Peter Poyner, was pastor for many years of the Bethlehem Baptist Church, near Winchester, Preble County., OH. "
Winchester, Preble Co., OH was in Gratis Twp. and therefore very close to the Butler Co. line.
Elder Peter Poyner died Jan. 31, 1852 age 81 buried at Poyner family cemetery was minister for 60 years

I Peter POYNER of the County of Currituck in the province of North Carolina Planter Being weak in body but of Sound mind memory thanks be Given to god therefore Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and Knowing that it si appointed for all men once to dye Dow make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to Say Principalley and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul into the hands of God who gave it me and my body I Recomend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Cristian Burial at the Descresion of my Executors and as Touching Such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me with in this Life I Give and Dispose of the Same in the Following manner and Form softh [soforth?] Vyz --

Silas died 1858. The 1860 census lists Mary as a widow.

Will of Silas Poyner dated February 1, 1854. He does not name all of the children. Wife Mary, and daughter Rebecca are named executors. Sarah Poyner is alternate. He does mention son Thomas C. W. Poyner and daughter Mary Poyner. Closes with ..." I want all my heirs to fare alike finally."
The full will and probate record is too lengthy to show here.

The will was admitted to Probate March 30, 1864.
April 1870...When Silas' son, Peter L Poyner was killed, his widow was expecting a child. The administrator for Peter's estate was Sarah's father, Samuel Shimp. They filed a lawsuit against the estate of Silas to obtain the share of Peter for the widow and child. They received the one tenth share.
