The will of Robert Lenoir - dated 30 October 1792 and probated 24 June 1793 of St. Andrews Parish. Mentions: daughter, ELIZABETH JAMES; son Fisher; daughter, Winifred Chealy; son, Thomas; son, William; son Lewis; daughter Ann Lenoir; son, Robert Crawley Lenoir; son John; wife, Winifred; two grandchildren, Francis Fisher Lenoir and John Peterson Lenoir, to have 1/10 of money estate is sold for; should 'either of my children died before age 21 or without heir: children Robert C. and John to stay with mother until they come of age or marry.

Note: The City and county of Lenoir, N.C. were named for Thomas' son General William Lenoir, who was the hero of the battle of Kings Mountain during the revolutionary War.
Some sources say Thomas married Mourning in Ireland where he had fled to escape Huguenot persecution in France & they emigrated to Edgecombe Co., NC. This, however has never been confirmed. A key Lenoir ref: "Echoes of Happy Valley" by Thomas Felix Hickerson. FHC says b. NYC.
The Will of Thomas Lenoir, made in 1765, and recorded in Book A, Edgecombe County records, pages 147-149, with original spelling preserved:
"In the name of God, Amen, the fourteenth day of May, 1765. I, Thomas Lenoir, of the County of Edgecombe in the Parish of St. Mary's in the province of North Carolina, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect sence and memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore caling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say, Princippally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be decently buried in a decent Christian burial without any superfluity at the discretion of my Excrs. hereafter nominated, nothing doubting but at the general Resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased Almighty God to bless within this life, I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
In Prim, I Give and Bequeath unto my son Robert Lenoir One Shilling Sterling.
Item, I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Westmoreland One Prayer Book.
Item. I Give and Bequeath unto my daughter Betty Lattemore One Prayer Book.
Furthermore my will and Desire is that all my land and lots in Tarburrow Town be sold and the money to be equally divided Between my five sons hereafter named.

Item. My will and desire is that after the deceas of my love wife that all the Personal Estate which she leaves may be equally divided Between my Two Daughters to wit Leah Whitaker and Mary Perry.
Item. I do hereby constitute make and ordain my Loving Wife Mourning Lenoir and my Loving son Isaac my Executric and Excrs. of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly dis-allow, Revoke and Disannull all and every former Testaments, Wils, Legacies and Bequest and Excrs. by me in anyways before named will and Bequathed. Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament.

Note: The PIONEER CERTIFICATE for Charles Lovelace states that he arrived in Iredell Co. before 1785.
"Lovelace Family Research" obtained from the Genealogical Society of Iredell Co. North Carolina - is not dated, but the latest date in it is 1915. Charles Lovelace was a large land owner. He bought 400 acres in 1784. His father and wife are not listed, only descendants. He had at least 8 children. "Sallie" was our line, born 1777, died 1852. Sallie married Asa Johnson,who was born in Maryland, 1775 and was the son of Benjamin Johnson.
Sallie (Sarah) and Asa had five children, including Asa Simpson Johnson, b 1813 m. Nancy Agnes Allison. Asa and Nancy had 8 children, #4 was Julius T who m. Emma Brown and they had eight children.

A portion of his Will was taken from the Iredell County, North Carolina Will Book Volume 1, page 5 dated October 8, 1796 and probated November 3, 1796.
His Executors are listed as Burgess Gaither and Jeremiah Gaither, his son-in-law married to his daughter Nelly.
"I give and bequeath unto my son, Thomas Lovelace, my mill and two hundred acres of land; I give and bequeath unto my son, Rasmus Lovelace, all the remaining tract of land I now live on and all the remaining part of my new entry that is adjoining of said tract. In addition, I bequeath to him one new saddle, one cow and six head of hogs that is running at home; I give unto my daughter Anne Lovelace, Negro Ben and one feather bed; Unto daughter, Linny Summers, Negro Bet; Unto daughter Sally Johnston, Negro Harmon and forty pounds of North Carolina currency; Unto my daughter, Nelly Gaither, Negro child Jane and thirty pounds of North Carolina currency; To David Thompson, forty pounds of North Carolina currency to be paid to him by the Executors when he reaches the age of 21 years. All the rest of my estate is to be sold to pay my debts with any remainder to be divided equally between all my children."

Note: John Baptist Lovelace lived and died in Maryland, but "Heritage of Iredell County - The Lovelace Family" mentions him because many of his family settled there. Eleanor remarried to Thomas Robey and they moved to North Carolina.
John's will dated July 13, 1765:
In the name of God Ahmaen. I, John Baptist Lovelace, Fredrik CO. in the Province of Maryland, being in perfect health and of sound mind, do make constitute, and ordain, this my last will and testament, in this manner and form following:
I. Imprimis: first and principally, I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Elenor, one hundred twenty-nine (129) acres of land being part of a tract called "Hermitage", whereon I now live, and also part of the resurvey joining the aforesaid land as far as John Locklon's spring branch, during her natural life, and afterward to be divided equally between my three sons, William, Elias, and Luke, their heirs and assigns.
II. I give and bequeath to my well beloved son, CHARLES all the remaining part of the aforesaid resurvey, to him and his heirs and assigns.
III. I give and bequeath to my well beloved son, Isaac, one hundred twenty and one half (120 1/2) acres of land caled "Jobs's Comfort" in Charles County, to him his heirs and assigns.
IV. I give and bequeath one third (1/3) part of my personal estate to my well beloved wife, Elenor, after my just debts are paid, whom I appoint as executrix of my estate, and all the remaining part to be equally divided between my four young children, viz, Vetchel, Mary Ann, Archibald, and Millicent. And if either of them should die before they come of age, to be equally divided between the survivors.
