L. Harold Vawter - WATERVLIET - L. Harold Vawter, 75, of Watervliet, died Friday, March 30, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Harold's life began Feb. 29, 1932, in Bear, Ark. His proud parents were Essie (Metcalf) and Boyd Vawter. Harold spent his childhood growing up in Arkansas. In September of 1950 he met and fell in love with Shirlea Townsend in Hot Springs, Ark., and on Dec. 7, 1950, they married in Piney, Ark. After they were married Harold and Shirlea moved to Michigan and Harold went to work for Auto Specialties until 1991, where he was a division manager. Outside of work Harold enjoyed camping and golfing.Harold found his greatest joy spending time with his family which includes: his wife, Shirlea; five children - Rick (Pat) Vawter, Randy (Cathy) Vawter, Ron (Dianne) Vawter, Russ Vawter and Renee (Brent) Abrams; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Essie Vawter; three nieces and nephews; and the family of Press and Maxine Olson.He is preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Jordan Vawter; his father, Boyd Vawter; two brothers, Alonzo and Gene Vawter; and very good friends, Press and Maxine Olson.Cremation has taken place and private services will be celebrated.
