[They are the parents of Edith Powell, wife of John Pease James]
In the name of God amen. I Rebecka Powel of the county of Rutherford and State of Tennessee, do make, ordain and publish this my last will and testament here by revoking all former wills by me made, this the twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.
In the manner and form following, To wit,
First I give and bequeath unto my son in law Jesse Eaton one Dollar to him and his heirs forever.
Second I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Powel a certain debt of fifty dollars due me in Haywood County in the state of North Carolina from Henry Plot,(brother-in-law) to her and her heirs forever.
Third, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Lydia Ward one dollar to her and her heirs forever.
Forth, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Rebecka McMurtree one bay mare that she has now in possession to her and her heirs forever.
Fifth, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Edy Powel one black horse, one cow and calf, one feather bed, bedstead and furnetture for it to her and her heirs forever.
It is farther my will that my two Daughters, to wit, Elizabeth and Edy have the use of my negro man Valletine two years from my decease and at the expiration of that time that he be sold to the highest bidder by my executor or executors and that fifty dollars be given to my grandson Pleasant Ward to him and his heirs forever and the balance be equally divided between my two daughters Rebecka McMurtree and Edy Powell to them and their heirs forever.
Farther it is my will that all my household and kictchen furnetture be equally divided between Rebecka and Edy and all the corn ??? and stock of hogs to remain here exclusively for the use of Elizabeth & Edy and that my crop of cotton be sold for cash to pay all my just debts. I here by appoint and constitute my friend Peyton Smith my Executor of this my last will and testament in testimony whereof I set my hand and seal this day and ???
